Organization A, a nonprofit that had no national presence, found the value of working with Your Startup Coach to achieve the visibility they deserved. By inviting Royce King, founder of Your Startup Coach, along to experience what they do first-hand, they were able to gain media attention that brought in over $400K in donations
Nonprofits are often competing for the same dollars that dozens of other nonprofits are vying for. Because of this, many work off of a meager budget and lean heavily on a limited pool of donors who experience donor fatigue.
Donor stewardship and retention are difficult for many nonprofits, and the underlying problem is they usually aren’t telling their story well to a large enough audience. By identifying this problem with Organization A, Your Startup Coach was able to transform their messaging into a meaningful and cohesive story that translated into a loyal donor base.
How a Lack of Visibility Can Lead to Few Donations
This small, local nonprofit was just beginning to gain a regional presence. When Your Startup Coach (YSC) sat down with the Development Director, she admitted she was tired, burned out, and working too many networking events to increase the organization’s visibility. The problem was, her efforts were not creating the results they so desperately needed in order to hit their target revenues.
How Press and Positioning Increased Donations for Organization A
Prior to YSC’s partnership with Organization A, there was limited visibility beyond the region where this nonprofit was headquartered, although they were serving donees worldwide.
There was little value to the donors and they were becoming fatigued. The staff, especially the Development Director, was working too hard for little return, and they were competing over and over for the same dollars in the community.
YSC’s approach was to increase visibility for this organization:
- Royce King, founder of YSC was able to experience the work of this nonprofit organization first-hand, capturing soundbites to use in press releases and media stories.
- With the media connections YSC leveraged, Organization A’s philanthropic work was highlighted in 3 press articles outside of their current region.
- The visibility brought a corporate donor who has been donating $10,000+/year since 2016.
- The visibility and positioning of Organization A also secured a renowned company donating more than $400,000 a year in supplies to provide necessities to disadvantaged children in third-world nations.
YSC was able to strategically position Organization A to highlight the good they were doing, expanding their donor base, and allowing them to serve more people. They earned a mark of distinction as an organization that served the community-at-large, rather than exhausting the limited resources of their immediate community.
